Mrs. Smith graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing and worked as an Assistant Buyer for the Younkers department store chain until she moved to Florida. She was a secretary for one of the Brevard County Commissioners until her son, Brandon was born. She began working in the media center at Merritt Island High School when her son started kindergarten. While working at MIHS, she returned to school and got a Master of Science Degree in Educational Media. Upon completion of her degree, she began teaching at Atlantis. During the summer of 2006 she completed ESOL training to learn strategies to make learning more comprehensible and meaningful to English Language Learners. Mrs. Smith is a former Atlantis Teacher of the Year. She has been at Atlantis since it opened as the computer teacher/technology specialist and enjoys the wonderful variety of things that she does. The best part for her, however, is working with the children. The joy of watching them learn and grow makes teaching a very rewarding profession for her.
